I’ve often heard this question, and I always felt bad because I didn’t know the answer myself. What kind of Catholic am I if I don’t know the answer to that?
Well, there are a lot of people that like to challenge the Catholic Church, and Catholics are supposed to be there to answer people’s questions. Sadly, there are only a few of us Catholics willing to know the truth. Sadly, there are only a few people who care.
How did I get the answer to this question? Well, I asked a priest myself. Apparently, the word “pope” is actually in the Bible. It is just worded differently. Father Matthias Heppel explains:
The Bible can be explained in many different ways. Unfortunately, only credible people can do this. That is why there have been a lot of people questioning Catholicism itself. Many think they understand the meaning of the bible, but in fact, they truly do not. Now, what makes a person credible enough to translate it for us? Priests, the archbishop, and many others who have gone through the necessary training.
Father Heppel also states,
“We also need to remember that Apostolic Tradition comes before Sacred Scripture, and that the Bible must be read and understood in the light of Apostolic Tradition.“
There you have it.
For now, if you have any questions, it is best to go to the right person to ask them. By metaphor:
You simply cannot go to a lawyer to fix your disease. You need to go to a doctor who specializes in it to help you.
